Switching focus from guitar to piano, Kirby created the fresh sound of Vampire Hotel. The album was produced by Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar, Wide Mouth Mason, Taj Mahal), and recorded in part at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Sudios in Austin, TX. The album defines Kirby's unique style of "East Coast R&B", drawing from the sounds of New Orleans, Motown, and from the rich tradition of Newfoundland storytelling. Vampire Hotel features many great players, including the Marquee (Craig Follett and Mark Marshall), Steve Marriner, Gordie Johnson, Geoff Panting, Curtis Andrews and the Horns of Justice (also known as the Idlers horn section). The first two singles, "Don't Forget About Me" and "Come Clean", both reached #1 on the East Coast Countdown and received significant airplay on radio across the country.

Chris released his solo debut record the day after receiving his Bachelor of Engineering degree, and so began his busy double life! The 11-song recording is primarily guitar-driven blues-rock, but is eclectic, containing hints of soul and even country. The title track hit #1 on the nationally-syndicated East Coast Countdown, and the record was named #7 in the Blind Lemon Blues top 20 Canadian blues albums for 2006. Kirby co-produced the album with Armondo Fowlow (Stereotype).
